Eat, Drink, Dance, Dream

SAVE THE DATE: FEBRUARY 19, 2011 "MOCA BASH Surf's Up!"

More than 800 guests celebrated cutting edge creativity at the Museum of Contemporary Art's Bohemian Bash fundraiser on February 20.  Chaired and sponsored by Barbara Herzberg and Alan and Diane Lieberman, the imaginative evening was inspired by the Dadaist art movement that embraced the role of the unconventional and the absurd in artistic process.  With additional support from Smith Barney Morgan Stanley, King Jewelers, Riviera South Beach Luxe Hotel, Dr. Shulamit and Chaim Katzman and Ray Ellen and Allan Yarkin, proceeds benefited the museum's exhibitions, education programs and permanent collection.

Miami artists Kevin Arrow, Bhakti Baxter, Beatrice Monteavaro and Wendy Wischer worked with event planners The Design Group and lighting designer Dave Walters of All Access AVL to transform MOCA's galleries into spectacular visual experiences.  Avant-garde films projected on oversized white balloon covering the ceiling were the first indication that the evening was going to be like none other.  While partygoers sipped Grey Goose Vodka cocktails and sampled fabulous hors d'oeuvres, dueling quartets from FIU School of Music played in an upside down room with furniture installed on the ceiling.  In a private theater area, artist Nicole Soden performed a sultry burlesque dance behind a screen, while nearby writers from the Miami Poetry Collective composed in an indoor garden.  Fashion designer Carol Adrianza, inspired by Salvadore Dali's Dream of Venus, dressed dancers in evocative costumes composed of bustiers and fish net stockings, lace tops with tuille tutus and body suits adorned with seashells and pearls.  Psychics from The Gypsy Tea Room gave tarot card readings while guests bid on coveted silent auction items such as an  Epiphone Guitar autographed by Barry Gibb. The auction also featured special experiences such as a dinner party prepared by Michael Schwartz of Michael's Genuine,  a week-long cruise on Residensea's The World and a trip to Paris during Spring Fashion Week with tickets to the Givenchy show.

There were fabulous food choices that evening.  Chef Marc Vidal of Solea at W South Beach prepared sizzling Sardinas alla Planca on-site and Ken Lyons of The Cape Cod Room served Lobster Stew and Gravalax Saucers.  Other tasty treats included Tiradito and Ceviche from Adriana's Restaurant, Saffron Lentils and Oxtail from LeBasque and passed hors d'oeuvres and chilled soups from Shiraz Catering.  The black and white Op Art room was resplendent with delicious cakes and desserts from We Take the Cake.

Among the guests donning their bohemian best were MOCA Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater, Bohemian Bash Honorary Chair Belkys Nerey, MOCA Board Chairman Michael Collins and wife Sandy,  Board President and Bohemian Bash sponsors Ray Ellen Yarkin and husband Allan,  sponsors and MOCA Trustee Shulamit and Chaim Katzman, MOCA Chairman Emeritus Irma Braman,  Janice Lipton, Jason and Haley Binn, Michelle and Jason Rubell, Channing Norton and Glenna and Nigel Norton, Dr. Sanford Ziff, Marty Margulies and Constance Collins, and North Miami Mayor Andre Pierre.

At midnight the party moved to South Beach nightclub SET for a dazzling after party.
