MUSEUM STUDIES MAGNET PROGRAM

MOCA has partnered with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to develop curriculum for new school-wide magnet programs in museums and communications students at elementary, middle and high schools in North Miami, which emphasizes problem-solving, communication, exploration, invention and inquiry. MOCA will educate over 7,000 students annually. Click here to learn more or to download application.

MOCA's ART PIXIE

Meet the new MOCA Art Pixie at the Aventura Mall

Every other month, MOCA’s Art Pixie visits Aventura Mall’s Rainbow Valley playground where she will introduce pre-schoolers to the work of contemporary artists and guide them in hands-on art activities.

TEENS

JUNIOR DOCENTS

Wednesdays, 4:30–6PM
September through May | FREE

Teens are invited to join this dynamic, after-school program in which they learn about contemporary art, develop writing, public speaking and graphic design skills, assist at special events, give tours and produce MOCA’zine, the museum’s acclaimed arts journal written by and for teens. Community service credit hours are available. This program has open enrollment!

AFTER-SCHOOL STUDIO DRAWING CLASSES

Tuesdays + Fridays, 4:00–6:30PM September through April | FREE

Studio drawing classes are offered every Friday for teens ages 13 to 18. Students are guided through the study of the drawing styles of renowned artists using a variety of Media.  All art materials are provided. This program has open enrollment!

SUMMER JOURNALISM INSTITUTE

The Summer Journalism Institute is a three-week intensive program in journalism that targets inner city youth and offers them the opportunity to create and produce their own publication. Using MOCA as a backdrop, the students will focus on art and its societal effects as well as other concerns of their community. Students will be given the opportunity to attend a field trip to the Miami Herald; hear guest speakers in the field of journalism and art; work on layout and design at Barry University; and also be exposed to the journalism programs at local universities.

WOMEN ON THE RISE!

Women on the Rise! is MOCA's innovative, gender-specific outreach program that serves over 200 at-risk, teenage girls from throughout Miami-Dade County. For more information, click here for more information..

ADULTS

DOCENT PROGRAM

We are looking for enthusiastic art lovers to join the Adult Docent Program. Volunteers are trained to lead tours of MOCA exhibitions and work with Education Curator, Dr. Adrienne von Lates as they learn about art history, receive behind-the-scenes insight into exhibitions, and master the art of public speaking. No previous art background is required. Docent briefings are held on Mondays at 11:00 am and on Saturdays at 2:00 pm.
