Young people ages 13 to 18 are invited to become part of the exciting after-school Junior Docent program. Teens meet at the museum on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 – 5:30 pm. Students earn community service hours by attending a nine-week training program that features sessions in art history, journalism, creative writing and public speaking. After completing their training, students will work with mentors to develop individualized projects that will further develop their skills --- such as teaching art activities to children, making presentations about the museum in their schools, writing articles for MOCA’zine, MOCA's teen art journal, and giving exhibition tours.

Contact MOCA's Education Department at 305-893-6211 ext. 25 or 31 or e-mail us at education@mocanomi.org and make sure to mention your age and which High School you attend and where we can reach you.

The Summer Journalism Institute is a three-week intensive program in journalism that targets inner city youth and offers them the opportunity to create and produce their own publication. Using MOCA as a backdrop, the students will focus on art and its societal effects as well as other concerns of their community. Students will be given the opportunity to attend a field trip to the Miami Herald; hear guest speakers in the field of journalism and art; work on layout and design at Barry University; and also be exposed to the journalism programs at local universities. Classes will begin on Monday, June 11, 2007 and end on Friday, June 29, 2007. They will be housed at the MOCA from 1:00-5:00 PM Monday through Friday. To apply, click here.
