Magnus Sodamin: Floridian Totems

Overview

Floridian Totems is a site-specific installation, part of an ongoing series by Magnus Sodamin titled Reflections of Florida Wild.

Floridian Totems extends above MOCA’s pond and is a whimsical representation of Florida’s wildlife, engaging viewers in a reflection on the fragility and vulnerability of our natural environment. Guests are invited to step closer for a deeper look at the silhouettes of indigenous animals and plants vital to Florida’s ecosystem, including the Florida panther, the flamingo, the osprey, the owl, the deer, mangroves and saw palm. The warm pink tones of Floridian Totems are intentionally chosen to contrast against the turquoise sky, allowing for deeper connection and meditation on the natural beauty of our Floridian world.
