MOCA Book Club Discussion Meeting: The House on Mango Street

Overview

The 2025 NEA Big Read Miami is partnering with the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, to celebrate their fall exhibition Diana Eusebio: Field of Dreams, an exploration of cultural preservation, ancestral memory, and connection between people and place. The exhibition opens November 5 at MOCA.

To celebrate this opening, MOCA Book Club invites you to read and discuss The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, a novel exploring similar themes of belonging, identity and return to home. The discussion meeting will take place at MOCA on January 25, 2026. RSVP here and pick up your free books at the museum’s visitor services desk, courtesy of the Miami Book Fair. Copies are available in English and Spanish, while supplies last. Let’s read together!

About MOCA Book Club

We read books inspired by our contemporary art exhibitions and we meet to discuss them in-person. Together, we explore great literature and enrich our experience with the arts.

About Diana Eusebio

Textile artist Diana Eusebio will debut her first solo museum exhibition, Field of Dreams, featuring 38 works, including naturally dyed and digitally printed textiles, and immersive installations. Drawing from her Indigenous Peruvian-Quechua and Afro-Dominican roots, Eusebio bridges personal memory with ancestral traditions, using natural dyes and textiles to create an exhibition grounded in both the flora and fauna of Miami and the landscapes of her family’s homelands. Her practice is deeply rooted in familial knowledge and shaped by her connection to Miami’s natural environment.

About NEA Big Read

The National Endowment for the Arts Big Read is a program that awards grants to organizations in support of community reading programs designed around a single NEA Big Read Book. This year, NEA’s Big Read selection is Sandra Cisneros’ 1984 novel The House on Mango Street, about growing up Chicana in a Hispanic quarter of Chicago.
